Heavy duty seismic expansion joint covers are incredibly important in creating a safe and sealed expansion joint especially when designing a stadium that can hold upwards of 100,000 screaming fans. With an average of 4-5 earthquakes a year, and Los Angeles situated next to the tectonic boundary of the San Andreas Fault, it’s easy to understand why the LA Rams SoFi Stadium elected to go with the highest performing expansion joint systems on the market.
This iconic stadium has become synonymous with stadium design innovation and sets a new benchmark for fan, player, and broadcast experience. The best in design requires the best of its suppliers. In addition to engineering and manufacturing hundreds of unique PVC RoofJoint expansion joint transitions to tie together the Sika Sarnafil roof membrane, Sika Emseal furnished its SJS and Seismic Colorseal stadium expansion joints that keep this NFL stadium watertight and able to handle the extreme demands of pedestrian and operational traffic while accommodating structural movements.
Sealing Stadium Bowl Expansion Joints
The SJS System (Seismic Expansion Joint System) runs directly through the stadium seating bowl. Factory-fabricated tread-and-riser transitions were expertly crafted by Sika Emseal technicians to not only create a drop-in-place installation, but ensure no water could penetrate the joints. Continuity of seal is always stressed when selecting the correct expansion joint solution.
Waterproofing the Stadium "Tub"
The section shown here portrays what is know at the stadium bowl “tub”. A CAD designed parapet wall expansion joint transition from the SJS to Seismic Colorseal wraps up and over the concrete structure. Protected, sealed, and watertight.
