EMSEAL Manufacturing Plant Achieves ISO 9001 and 14001 Certification
In its ongoing commitment to quality and sustainability, EMSEAL is proud to announce achievement of ISO certification both to the 9001:2015 standard for quality assurance as well 14001:2015 environmental management certification.
“ISO certification is external validation of the practices on which we have always run the EMSEAL plant,” comments Bill Witherspoon, EMSEAL LLC Vice President. “The discipline of documenting our process has validated our existing areas of excellence and has brought to light other improvement opportunities on which we will focus.”
EMSEAL has long been motivated by the development and sale of high performance expansion joint and sealant products that meet or exceed the performance requirements of the building systems into which they are installed. Its growing list of patented, multi-function expansion joint technologies is testament to EMSEAL’s success in doing so.
Furthermore, EMSEAL has an unrivaled track record of successful construction projects proving that use of its product line results in lowest-total-cost of ownership for property owners.
Continuous Improvement
EMSEAL embraces a policy of continuous improvement. Through monitoring of developments in material science EMSEAL seeks to eliminate or replace raw materials and process chemicals with benign or lower toxicity, low-emitting alternatives. The goals of this practice are to:
- ensure worker and installer health and safety,
- contribute to sustainability through toxics use reduction and elimination,
- reduce, reuse and recycle packaging and waste material
- ensure longest possible product life cycles.
“Anyone who knows the rigorous requirements of certification to ISO 14001:2015 as well as ISO 9001:2015 will appreciate what an enormous accomplishment this is,” comments Dan O’Hayer, EMSEAL President. “This certification sends a message to owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, applicators, reps and distributors, that EMSEAL is committed to quality and environmental stewardship in its products and manufacturing practices.”
ISO 14001 Environmental Management
The International Standards Organization (ISO) website describes ISO 14001 as follows:
“ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. ISO 14001:2015 is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.
ISO 14001:2015 is applicable to any organization, regardless of size, type and nature, and applies to the environmental aspects of its activities, products and services that the organization determines it can either control or influence considering a life cycle perspective.”
Implementation of this management system in conjunction with the quality management objectives of ISO 9001:2015 is a double validation of EMSEAL’s commitment to environmental stewardship and quality.
Ongoing EMSEAL initiatives to reduce environmental impact include:
- projects to reduce packaging volume, and optimize for worker safety EMSEAL’s Emcrete nosing material;
- reduce energy use through the addition of soft-start motors;
- investigate installation of rooftop solar arrays;
- continue to support LEED and Green Building principles through domestic sourcing of raw materials;
- convert all plant lighting to low-energy-use LED technology;
- maintain Sustainable Business Leader principles.
