The Center of Clayton is a state of the art, multi-purpose recreation complex that offers residents of Clayton Missouri gym, rock climbing, aquatic, track, meeting room, coffee shop, sandwich shop and other services. The Center is shared with Clayton High School as well showing the innovative and forward thinking of the City in its development.
It is fitting then that the structure is sealed with an innovative, multi-function expansion joint sealant too. Colorseal from EMSEAL provides waterproofing, insulation, resistance to hurricane-force winds, sound attenuation, and accommodates structural movement–all in one, non-invasively anchored system.
Expansion joints at inside corners are difficult to make watertight. Strip seals (combination aluminum rail and snapped-in extruded glands) cannot be practically installed because of the need to drill and set anchors.
Other options like compression seals are not watertight where variations (such as at mortar joints) exist.
Caulk and backer rod cannot be installed in large joint-gaps to look good or handle structural movements. The solution: A hybrid sealant system which preserves the best properties of a high performance silicone but removes the shortcomings of liquid and mechanically applied materials. A system which positively anchors without drilling into the substrates. A system which is watertight through changes in direction and plane. A system which fits the designers aesthetic intent. A system called Colorseal.

Today we began installation of the Colorseal material on the subject job. The contractor, had no previous experience with the product so I met their two mechanics on the jobsite first thing this morning. I covered surface prep and proper installation procedures. Within a short time the two workers were quite comfortable with the product as exhibited by the look of the finished product.
One of the major attributes of the Colorseal is ease of application.
For your review I have attached photos of the first joint installed; second floor above main entrance.”
